Curriculum

The Creative Curriculum

At Clackclose we have begun to introduce a curriculum that is integrated and

creative to help our children learn in an exciting, imaginative and relevant

way. We want our children to develop a love for learning which will be with

them for the rest of their lives, even when school is a far distant memory.

We aim to ensure that all pupils leave our school with good basic skills in

reading, writing and maths but along the way we want them to learn about the

world around them and how they can be good citizens in their local

community as well as global citizens. We want them to be successful,

confident and enthusiastic learners who will be able to adapt in an ever

changing world. The creative curriculum is a way in which we can inspire

and develop our children’s curiosity and interest. It is a way of linking the

subjects together so they are contextualised and therefore more meaningful

and enjoyable for the children.

This development will be a long process and we intend to move through that

process carefully so we get it right for the learners. The first stage has

already begun. Over the last couple of terms teachers have begun to link

ideas and subjects in creative ways.

To ensure that the children are learning well and having fun, we are in the

process of introducing a skills based curriculum. The children will have a

number of skills to learn during set periods of the term, depending on the

length of the specific topic. These skills can be taught in a variety of ways

which lead to more creativity in the classroom. In fact, the creative curriculum

will enhance the teaching of basic skills of reading, writing and maths –

wherever possible the skills they have learned will be put into a meaningful

context.

In the future, we want to be able to allow children to have more of a say about

the topics which will be studied, developing a more personalised approach to

their learning and enabling them to think for themselves
