About Us
Clackclose Community Primary School is a non-denominational school which provides education for approximately 350 children aged 3 to 11 in Downham Market, Downham West, Salters Lode, Barroway Drove and Nordelph. A number of parents from surrounding villages also choose to send their children to Clackclose. The school is a community primary school which is owned and funded by Norfolk County Council. The Governing Body of the school is responsible for the budget and running of the school.
The school, which is named after the ancient Clackclose Hundred, has provided education in one form or another for almost 130 years. Its two sites, approached from Snape Lane and Nursery Road, adjoin one another and share facilities.
The Lower School site in Snape Lane was built in 1873 and completely modernised in 1995/96. It houses the Nursery Unit and Reception classes. The site provides young children with their own, secure outdoor areas as well as a shared playground with attractive play equipment. There is also easy access to the playing field at the Upper School site.
The Upper School site houses classrooms for older children in a modern building dating from the 1970s. As well as classrooms, the building has a hall, library and cooking areas. Outdoors, there is an extensive playing field, adventure playground and a nature conservation area. There are a number of mobile classrooms, erected to cope with the school's growing numbers. In addition to these we also have a temporary mobile, housing the Children's Centre which will go into the lower site building when building works are completed.
The local community uses the facilities in the evenings and at weekends. Activities include ballet classes, yoga and holiday and after school clubs for children.
